UKAI is one of my favourite restaurant group in Japan. I will make sure i visit one of their restaurants every time when i am in Tokyo. UKAI group has been around for more than 50 years! However, this is my 1st visit to TOKYO SHIBA TOFUYA UKAI(東京 芝 とうふ屋うかい), a place specialized in TOFU dishes in different varieties. The restaurant is located right next to the Tokyo Tower. The natural setting is absolutely beautiful, I can feel a spiritual connection with nature and humans.
Except the soft silken bean curd dishes, there is an open kitchen in the middle of garden which is a place for a chef to prepare chargrilled tofu puffs. The process of this method can remove the excess water of the puff and concentrate the soy’s taste. We just simply served it with chopped onion and light sweet sauce. So nice!!
I must be honest that the food is not 100% to my taste, felt kind of full half way into the meal. I would recommend this place only if you are a big TOFU fans!
